There are two type of installation process, and we will walk you through each in this article.

  • Hardwired - the device is wired into the vehicle's electrical system and can support Starter Interrupt.
  • Wireless - battery-powered with no wiring; simply power on and place in the vehicle.

Wireless Installation

The wireless device uses an internal antenna, so placement and orientation are critical. Below is the official GlobalNow Tech installation guide for the wireless device (GTSWB007).

Wireless Installation Best Practices

Topic Details
Device Orientation Mount horizontally with the product label side facing up, toward the sky.
Important Notes Do not install above or near airbags. Ensure no metal covers the device to avoid signal interference.
Before Installation Clean the area with a damp cloth or alcohol wipe. Peel off adhesive backing. Use zip ties if extra security is needed.
Best Mounting Locations Above gauge cluster. Above radio, with power wires routed away from radio wiring. Above air vents or ducts.
Other Acceptable Spots Glove box. Center console.
Recommended Locations from Official Guide Under vehicle dash. Under vehicle seats. Above the glove box area, not in the glove box. Under center console. Trunk quarter panels under carpet.

Why placement matters: The wireless device uses an internal antenna and must have a clear line of sight to the sky. Metal panels, airbag areas, or shielded compartments can block or weaken the GPS signal.

Quick Activation Steps (Wireless)

  1. Search and download the Sarekon Installation App from Google Play or the Apple App Store before beginning. Search "Sarekon Installation" or scan the QR code on the official installation sheet.
  2. Find a suitable mounting location inside the vehicle. Direct line of sight to the sky, no metal directly above. Gasket side faces down.
  3. Hold down the "On" button on the bottom of the device for seven seconds until the red LED on the side is solid, not flashing, then release. The red LED will turn off automatically once the device has sent its first message. This can take up to fifteen minutes.
  4. Remove the on/off gasket once you have received a message from the device.
  5. Secure the device inside the vehicle. Do not use adhesive or Velcro over the on/off pin area. Follow the installation app to verify proper installation.
  6. Confirm the LED lights on the device are off, and check the device history online to confirm a message has been received with an accurate location.

Troubleshooting (Wireless)

If no message has been received:

  • Drive the vehicle briefly down the street and recheck.
  • Initiate a device reset using an Off-On-Off-On sequence:
  • Turn the device off by holding the "Off" side of the gasket for seven seconds. The LED will turn off.
  • Turn the device back on by holding the "On" side for seven seconds. The LED should move to a solid state.
  • While the LED is solid, turn the device off again by holding "Off" for seven seconds.
  • Turn the device back on by holding "On" for seven seconds. The LED should move to solid, initiating a "Boot" event once the GPS has acquired a lock.

Hardwired Installation

The hardwired device (Helkon Kit) connects directly to the vehicle's electrical system and supports an optional Starter Interrupt relay.

Hardwired Quick Reference

Step Action
1 Download the Sarekon Installation App from Google Play or Apple App Store.
2 Find a suitable mounting location inside the vehicle, preferably under the dash pad, with direct line of sight to the sky and no metal above. Label side facing down.
3 If using the OBDII adapter: connect the black 2-pin connectors and plug into the vehicle's OBDII port. If not using the OBDII adapter, skip to Step 4.
4 Cut the black 2-pin connector off the power cable, not the 3-pin. Connect red wire to a constant 12V source or OBDII port PIN 16. Connect black wire to solid ground or PIN 4.
5 Proceed with the installation app's step-by-step instructions to verify a proper install, or check manually in Step 6.
6 Confirm green and red LEDs are both solid. If green is blinking, confirm the vehicle is outdoors. Send and confirm a successful locate command. Reassemble and test before delivery.

Installation best practice: Use a voltage meter to confirm proper voltage to the device. Measure at the vehicle battery with the car off and the keys removed from the ignition. Voltage on a wire that is slightly less than the reading at the battery indicates that the wire is not directly from the battery feed and should not be used.

LED Behavior Reference

LED Color Function Behavior
Green GPS Blinking = Searching; Solid = Connected
Red Cellular Blinking = Searching; Solid = Connected

OBDII Pin Reference

OBDII PIN # Description
4 Chassis Ground
16 Fused Battery Power

Optional: Starter Interrupt Wiring (Hardwired)

For devices that support Starter Interrupt (TRACE SD and ELYTIS), follow the additional steps on page 2 of the hardwired guide. Key steps include:

  • Cut the vehicle's starter wire and connect the relay between the two ends.
  • Connect relay wires per the diagram. Always reference relay PIN numbers, since actual wire coloring may vary.
  • Send and confirm a successful starter auto-disable command.
  • Verify disable by turning the key to ON for at least 15 seconds, removing the key for at least 15 seconds, up to 90 seconds, and attempting to start the vehicle. It should not crank.
  • Send and confirm a successful starter enable command before reassembling and testing.

Installation App

GlobalNow Tech provides the Sarekon Installation App, available on Google Play and Apple App Store, which walks you through setup and confirms the device is communicating correctly. This is especially helpful when training new staff or installing devices in bulk.
